When we got to our room and tried using our room key the door would not open. We continued to try. I was with my kids while my husband was getting our bags from the car. After trying our key several times and double checking that we were at the right room two homeless men opened the door with a cart full of their belongings as well as their pit bull dog that was barking at my children. They proceeded to take off out of the room with their things and their dog. They were clearly not supposed to be in there. When I told the front desk she said that in order for them to have a room key which they did because the homeless man showed it to me that she stated that someone from the hotel staff had to have approved that for them. It automatically started off our trip in a negative way and scared my kids. Red lion hotel advertises themselves as a HOTEL. But this was disgusting. They allow homeless people to stay in the room you’re guaranteed. As well as entering the rooms from the outside like a motel. It was unclean and had several homeless people surrounding the premises. It’s not a family friendly place which is what we thought when we booked. I will never stay here again and would never recommend this place.

Overall the rooms were clean, I had 2 different rooms, the first one had black ash/dirt in the bottom of the sink, so the front desk moved me to another room. Overall room was great, but he ice bucket was full of trash.

We had an overnight stay at the hotel during our visit to Monterey. The receptionist was friendly and took the time to explore all the available options, suggesting the ones that best suited our preferences. The spacious room with a double bed comfortably accommodated all of us.

I felt like i paid for a haunted room. bed sheets were not clean, curtains were moving when the big heater turns on automatically, mirror right in front of the bed, and could hear noises all night long.
